In his preteen years, Jackie Earl Haley earned his living as a TV commercial actor and voiceover artist (he played the son on Hanna-Barbera's animated All in the Family clone Wait Til Your Father Gets Home). At 13, Haley made his big-screen bow as a monstrous 1930s child star in Day of the Locust. The film role with which Haley is most closely associated is Kelly Leak, the teenaged motorcycle punk who redirects his energies into little league baseball in the three Bad News Bears films of the 1970s. On TV, Haley played Moocher in the 1980 series Breaking Away, re-creating his role in the 1978 film of the same name. A screenwriter as well as an actor in recent years, Jackie Earle Haley penned the script for the 1988 thriller Schizo. |
